			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It is widely reported that restaurant franchising in India is growing at the rate of 35-38 per cent each year with a market size of 7.2 billion US dollars.  This figure is expected to reach 20 billion US dollars by the year 2013.  In total, there are approximately 1,200 active franchise concepts in India and more than 100,000 franchisees.  There are in the region of 200 restaurant franchising concepts across the country.  Other important sectors using the franchising business model are beauty salons and cosmetics, business services, education, retailing, travel and tourism.</p>
<p>According to a survey carried out by Franchise India Holdings Ltd (FIHL), there are currently over 400 brand franchisors of which seventy per cent were concentrated in Delhi, followed by Western India with 386 brands, with the majority being from Mumbai and Gujarat.  250 brands were in the south, with the majority in Bangalore and Chennai and 58 brands in the eastern region, the majority being concentrated in Kolkata. </p>
<p>The survey finally gives the Indian restaurant franchising sector the recognition it has long deserved.  The study also reveals that more than 30 per cent of new food outlets which are springing up in almost every city across India are through the franchise system.  Such is the rate of growth, that restaurant franchises now account for an estimated 17% share of food and beverages in the commercial sector. Three-quarters of these are of Indian origin and the rest are international.  The report makes for revealing reading with regard to the growth of the Indian economy and the food consumer market, and also its potential for any future expansion.  The report states that 51 per cent of the consumer wallet share is dedicated to food (54 per cent in rural area and 42 in urban areas).  The swift pace of growth and apparent success of the restaurant franchise sector is encouraging many restaurant owners and existing food companies throughout the country to look to increase their brand in terms of franchisees across the country. </p>
<p>However, as with any other industry, the food service sector requires a support system to thrive. The biggest challenge today for the restaurant franchising industry is that the Indian government has not recognized it as a small business facilitator, unlike the United States.  In the U.S., for example, there are federal incentives to help restaurant franchises, such as write-offs, increased depreciation for certain restaurant improvements, like construction or equipment purchases, and tax relief for businesses wanting to improve their green credentials.  It remains to be seen whether India will follow the U.S. model in encouraging the growth of restaurant franchises.</p>

<p>Since beginning my internet marketing business, I’ve spoken to and dealt with a few former franchise owners&#8230; none of whom had anything particularly positive to say about franchising. In particular, I’ve discussed the subject extensively with my current personal mentor (one of the current top internet marketers in the world&#8230; yes officially&#8230; it is ranked). This is a guy who lost two franchise stores and went USD $500 000 into debt soon after the recession began. The following article will discuss some of the major cons involved with franchising.</p>
<p>First and foremost, investing in a brand-name franchise is going to set you back somewhere in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. Now I understand that you’re investing in a potentially lucrative business, however, this is quite a massive sum of money to be investing in something with such an uncertain future. Why did my mentor fall $500 000 into debt? Well, the economy took a turn for the worse, and his franchises went with it. This was only a few short months after making his initial investment, and there simply wasn’t anything he could do to keep the business afloat&#8230; the economy was bad and people were spending less and saving their money. Many other franchisees and small business owners were forced to sell their businesses soon after the economy went down the tubes.</p>
<p>Now if you do get your franchise up and running, it’s certainly not the cakewalk many people believe it to be. Yes there are company systems in place to facilitate the running of the business, and a brand name will help you attract extra customers&#8230; but that doesn’t mean you can simply “plug in” to the system and let it run for you&#8230; there’s still going to be quite a bit of hard work involved. Franchises are definitely NOT “get rich quick” opportunities, and are by no means a guarantee of success, no matter how well-known the franchise you may be buying into.</p>
<p>Moreover, the hassle of dealing with employees exists. Who do you generally see working in franchise stores? That’s right&#8230; teenagers&#8230; most of whom like to fool around on the job, and don’t care which way business goes&#8230; good or bad.</p>
<p>Lastly, if you’re looking at buying into a franchise, it’s likely you’re looking to be your own boss. While as a franchisee you may not have to answer directly to anyone, you’re far from being able to fully-control the business. Simple rules such as wages, hours of operation, suppliers (you’re generally relegated to buying from the franchisor&#8230; no shopping around for cheaper and better deals), and so on, are out of your control. This system which helps you run the business is also going to greatly limit your flexibility as a business owner.</p>
<p>This article is not to say that every franchise is bound to be a failure, or that they’re impossible to run, just that they are simply not the sure-fire way to success many people think they are. Other, simpler, options do exist in the form of self-owned businesses. Online home-based businesses can be one incredibly lucrative option&#8230; an essentially recession-proof option without the requirement of a massive investment, employees, and overhead. Do your due diligence however and search out a legitimate home-based business as there are quite a few scams out there today.</p>

It is, of course, beneficial to have a unique or superior service or product concept to offer to the public ; [**] it won&#8217;t hold up well without a good franchise system built around it. Inversely, some less than superb concepts have made a name for themselves as a consequence of a superior franchise system. </p>
<p>The single most crucial side of any franchise system is the trademark or service mark which is being licensed to the franchisee. Your first priority should be to design a completely unique mark by which your franchise system and its goods will be identified. You then must search the files of the central government and the states in order to determine whether anyone else is presently using the same or a similar mark. If you&#8217;ve got a green light, you must go on to secure a registration of that mark for yourself. Your franchise agreement must shield your interest in those marks and you need to set up stern and well implemented standards for the franchisee to follow in order not to endanger those marks. </p>
<p>The offer of a franchise is subject to state and Fed. laws. The penalties for failure to comply with those laws can be damaging both to our pocketbook and your reputation. You have to present prospective franchisees with a specially prepared declaration document ( known as an offering circular ) in strict obedience to those laws at least ten working days before they sign the franchise agreement or pay you any cash. There also are fifteen states that might need you to register the offering and submit the declaration for review before selling can occur inside their jurisdictions. Additionally, any form of advertising which is used to solicit a prospective franchisee must obey governmental rules. </p>
<p>There is more to being a franchisor than simply having a franchise agreement and an offering circular. <p>It is also advantageous from a sales perspective to have an actual facility which a prospective franchisee can visit since you will be engaged in a new business ( franchising ) ; your present business should be secure enough to function without your daily collaboration. Likewise, don&#8217;t expect to raid the ranks of your present organization to staff the new business. Remember, they have got to be replaced. </p>

<p>When the economy is slow, the advertising budget is usually first to go. Why oh why oh why? Right when you need to get your name out there the most, you cut and slash so that poor advertising budget is only a shell of its former self. I know that running a small business can be challenging. I know that you have to keep a close eye on expenses at the best of times. It can be tough. And it&#8217;s even tougher when you fall for the big business marketing model and try to use image based advertising to grow your small business. It won&#8217;t work when times are great, and it definitely won&#8217;t work when times aren&#8217;t great.</p>

<p>Stop me if you&#8217;ve heard this one before. Can you really afford to spend a few thousand dollars on radio or newspaper ads and hope people will think of you a few months down the road when they need what you have? A small business has to determine exactly who their target market is, find effective and affordable ways to engage that market, then create offers that will make them want to buy from you now, not later.</p>
<p>Follow the 4 U&#8217;s</p>
<p>If you can create marketing materials that follow the 4 U&#8217;s, you&#8217;ll be well on your way. The 4 U&#8217;s are urgency, uniqueness, ultra-specifity, and usefulness. If your product or service unique, ultra-specific, useful to your prospect, and creates a sense of urgency, a sale won&#8217;t be far behind. Forget the big corporation model. It won&#8217;t work for you. Find new and exciting ways to pique your prospect&#8217;s imagination and change their perception that won&#8217;t break the bank and will actually get you results.</p>
