Steps to a Quickly Starting a Dollar Store Business – Part III

There are many steps required to start a dollar store business. Leave one step out, or perform them in the wrong order and your grand opening might be delayed. However if you perform all of the steps in the right order your store can be open and operating very quickly indeed.

Once you have a location, signage, remodeling, layout design and other preliminary steps that were covered in previous articles completed, it is time to move on and handle other critical start up tasks. Those efforts start with ordering the merchandise for your store. Make sure that you order everything to fully stock your store for the grand opening. Don’t forget to place your first replenishment orders and schedule them for delivery after opening is scheduled to occur.

If you haven’t already completed the ordering of shopping carts and hand baskets, now is the time. Often these will be available locally. Save freight and purchase them locally if possible. If not, be sure that you have them scheduled to arrive before the grand opening event.

All of the basic store equipment such as cash registers, credit cards machines, adding machines, computers, point-of-sale and security equipment should also be ordered for delivery in plenty of time to be installed before you open your dollar store business. If extra phone lines will be required to handle the credit cards machines schedule the work to be done.

Purchase store stockroom and merchandise handling equipment. As the equipment arrives set-up the receiving and stock room areas. Make sure that you have back-up stock storage shelving installed before excess merchandise starts arriving.

Advertise and start scheduling employee interviewing. Write and submit your press release to all local area newspapers. Prepare and place your grand opening advertising. Develop your grand opening event.

Start setting up fixtures and displays as soon as they arrive. Your store sales area should be clean and ready when they arrive. You can then start stocking shelves as soon as merchandise begins arriving. Setup the checkout areas as soon as checkout counters arrive.

With all of this completed, you are almost ready for the grand opening of your dollar store business.
